Description and itinerary

Experience an unforgettable adventure in Sierra Nevada: an electric bike route to Pico Veleta, standing at an altitude of 3,398 metres.

The experience is designed for intermediate and advanced cyclists who want to take on a major sporting challenge and discover some of the most spectacular high-mountain landscapes on the Iberian Peninsula, with all the organisation and logistical support required to enjoy the day safely.

We will meet at 7:00 a.m. at the Cabberty store in Málaga. From there, we will travel by bus to Capileira while the electric bikes are transported safely to the starting point in a specially adapted trailer.

Once in Capileira, we will begin an approximately 47-kilometre route along the mountain tracks of Sierra Nevada. The route climbs through magnificent high-mountain scenery and offers spectacular panoramic views on the way to Pico Veleta.

During the route, we will make a technical stop near La Caldera mountain refuge, where we can rest, regroup and regain our strength before continuing.

After conquering Pico Veleta, we will begin an exciting descent to Pradollano. Our bus will be waiting there so that we can load the bikes and travel comfortably back to Málaga.

The activity will be accompanied by two professional MTB guides, two specialist mechanics and a support vehicle throughout the route. Everything is organised so that you only have to concentrate on cycling and enjoying the experience.

Itinerary

Meet your La Garganta Activa guide outside the Cabberty store in Málaga. Parque Empresarial Alameda, Av. de José Ortega y Gasset, 218, Cruz de Humilladero, 29006 Málaga

We will travel by bus from Málaga to Capileira. The electric bikes will be transported in a specially adapted trailer to ensure their safety throughout the journey.

Once in Capileira, we will unload and check the bikes. The guides will explain the route, provide technical recommendations and go through the safety instructions.

We will begin the ascent from Capileira along the mountain tracks of Sierra Nevada. Throughout the route, we will enjoy impressive panoramic views of the Alpujarra and some of the highest landscapes on the Iberian Peninsula.

We will continue the route until we reach Pico Veleta, standing at an altitude of 3,398 metres. It will be time to celebrate the achievement and admire the extraordinary views across Sierra Nevada.

From the Pico Veleta area, we will begin a spectacular descent by electric bike to Pradollano.

In Pradollano, we will load the bikes back onto the trailer and take the bus to Málaga.

How do I get to the meeting point?

Outside Cabberty store in Málaga

By car

You can easily reach Cabberty via Avenida de José Ortega y Gasset, heading towards Parque Empresarial Alameda and the El Viso industrial estate.

By train

The nearest commuter train station is Victoria Kent, served by the C-1 and C-2 lines. Cabberty is approximately an 11 minute walk from the station.

By bus

The nearest stop is Polígono El Viso, approximately a three-minute walk from Cabberty, served by bus routes 19 and N3. You can also take routes 4 or 22 to the Max Estrella–Cortijo Alto stop, approximately four minutes away on foot.Please check the timetable in advance to ensure that you arrive before 6:30 a.m.

The route starts in Capileira and climbs along the mountain tracks of the Sierra Nevada to Pico Veleta. It then descends to Pradollano. The route is approximately 47 kilometres long.

The e-bike tour will last approximately 4–6 hours, depending on the group’s pace, the weather and the terrain.

The total duration of the experience will be longer – 2 hours there and 2 hours back – due to the bus journeys from Málaga to Capileira and from Pradollano to Málaga.

This activity is of medium-high difficulty. The distance, elevation gain, terrain and high altitude mean that you need to be in good physical condition and have previous experience of mountain biking.

Yes. The activity may be amended or cancelled in the event of heavy rain, thick fog or strong winds, to ensure the group’s safety.
Change of plans? No problem. You can cancel free of charge up to 5 days before the activity. After this deadline, or if you do not turn up for the activity, a refund will not be possible.
