Description and itinerary
Spend a full day discovering Antequera, one of Andalusia’s richest cities for history and monuments.
The trip begins with a bus journey from Málaga to the El Torcal de Antequera Natural Area, known for its unusual limestone formations. Accompanied by a specialist guide, you’ll take an approximately two-hour circular hike through this spectacular karst landscape.
Along the way, you’ll see well-known formations such as El Tornillo, El Sombrerillo and El OVNI, while learning how the landscape formed and discovering some of its fascinating features.
We’ll then travel to Antequera’s historic centre for a guided walk through its most representative streets, squares and monuments. At the Mirador de las Almenillas viewpoint, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the city and Peña de los Enamorados. We’ll pass through the monumental Arco de los Gigantes on our way to the Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor and Plaza de Santa María.
You’ll also see historic landmarks including the remains of the Roman baths and the Church of El Carmen. The walk continues through the old town, past places such as the Church of Las Descalzas, and ends in the central Plaza de San Sebastián.
Afterwards, you’ll have free time for lunch, a stroll or more exploring at your own pace. The day ends with a visit to the Menga Dolmen, one of Europe’s most important megalithic monuments and part of the UNESCO-listed Antequera Dolmens Site.
