A DIFFERENT WAY OF UNDERSTANDING TOURISM

Sustainability isn’t something we do. It’s the way we work.

La Garganta was born out of the restoration of an old flour mill in the heart of El Chorro. Since then, every decision has been guided by the same philosophy: to use resources responsibly, respect the landscape, and give back to the environment a portion of all that it offers us.

Because if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that nature is our main supplier.

THE CHALLENGE

Measuring to Improve

Sustainability requires commitment, but it also requires knowledge.

That’s why we’ve conducted a comprehensive analysis of our carbon footprint to identify the main sources of emissions and design a roadmap capable of generating real, measurable improvements.

122.35 metric tons of CO2 equivalent analyzed to develop a data-driven reduction plan.

Category 1

Direct GHG emissions and removals [61.22%]. This includes fuel consumption from stationary sources and vehicles owned by the complex, as well as fugitive emissions resulting from the recharging of refrigerants in air-conditioning equipment.

Category 2

Indirect emissions from imported energy [0%]. This refers to the emissions associated with the electricity consumption of the utility company throughout the year 2025 at the hotel’s facilities.

Category 3

Indirect emissions from transportation [0.05%]. This includes employee commutes (assessed through a mobility survey covering 224 workdays) and logistics transportation by suppliers.

Category 4

Indirect emissions from products used by the organization [38.73%]. This is one of the most critical categories, calculated using physical and monetary factors, and includes the carbon footprint of catering services, the purchase of materials, and the consumption of drinking water from the municipal water system.

Categories 5 and 6

Other indirect emissions [0%]. Includes the impact of end-of-life treatment of generated waste (such as municipal solid waste, sewage sludge, etc.).

Every Drop Counts

Implementation of an advanced biological treatment and water reuse system that will significantly reduce drinking water consumption.

Estimated annual savings of 5,000 m3.

Energy

Generating clean energy where we need it

Installation of a solar photovoltaic system integrated into the complex’s parking lot to promote self-consumption and reduce energy dependence.

46.91 MWh of renewable energy per year.

Nature

The landscape is also part of the solution

Reforestation with native species adapted to the environment to promote biodiversity and increase carbon sequestration capacity.

50 new trees and shrubs.
