Description and itinerary
Discover the El Chorro Via Ferrata – Caminito del Rey, located in the heart of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Natural Area, in the Guadalhorce Valley, within the municipality of Álora (Málaga). This spectacular destination is world-renowned for its dramatic landscapes, towering limestone cliffs, and its importance as one of Europe’s premier climbing destinations.
El Chorro Via Ferrata is rated K3, making it a moderate-difficulty route that is perfect for those looking for an exciting yet accessible adventure. The challenge lies more in its length than in its technical difficulty, making it ideal for enjoying at a comfortable pace without rushing.
Your adventure begins conveniently at the reception of La Garganta Hotel-Restaurant, in El Chorro (Álora), at the south access, just 100 metres from El Chorro–Caminito del Rey train station. Here, you will meet your expert local guide, who will provide all the necessary technical instructions, ensure your safety throughout the experience, and help you capture unforgettable photos from some of the area’s most spectacular viewpoints.
The activity lasts approximately 4 hours, during which you’ll enjoy a complete via ferrata experience. You’ll tackle a vertical ascent using iron rungs high above the valley, cross a thrilling 35-metre zip line, a 15-metre Tibetan bridge, and a 30-metre monkey bridge, all while taking in breathtaking views over the Embalse de las Encantadas and the stunning El Chorro reservoir.
After completing the via ferrata, you’ll enjoy a short downhill hike back to the starting point. Along the way, you’ll admire panoramic views of the famous Caminito del Rey stone bridge and discover the rich wildlife and flora of the natural park, where it is common to spot birds of prey such as the griffon vulture soaring overhead.
The experience finishes back at La Garganta Hotel-Restaurant, where you can relax and continue enjoying the spectacular views over the final section of the Caminito del Rey Gorge from the terrace of La Garganta Restaurant. From here, you can also catch the train back or collect your car, conveniently parked nearby.
The activity is conducted in small groups to ensure maximum safety and personalised attention for every participant. This allows your guide to provide continuous support throughout the route, creating a safe, friendly, and enjoyable experience adapted to the pace of the group.
This adventure is ideal for both beginners and those with some previous experience. No prior via ferrata experience is required—just a reasonable level of fitness and a desire to enjoy an unforgettable day in one of Andalusia’s most spectacular natural settings.
