Description and itinerary

Venture into the heart of the Torcal de Antequera, a natural site designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered one of the most impressive karst landscapes in Europe.

The tour begins at the steps between the car park and the Torcal Alto Visitor Centre, from where the circular walk – lasting around three hours – starts. This isn’t a tour for experts, but an experience designed for enjoyment, learning and wonder. Our expert geology guide will give you an introduction to the rules governing the area we’re in.

During this circular route, you’ll explore the site’s most iconic spots and learn to interpret the landscape without needing any technical knowledge. Along the way, you’ll discover some of El Torcal’s most intriguing and frequently photographed formations, such as El Tornillo (the park’s symbol), El Sombrero or ‘UFO’, El Laberinto – where we’ll take a short break to enjoy a snack that each visitor can bring along – the Amphitheatre, the Juan Ramón Refuge and the remarkable Montpellier maple, the only known specimen in Andalusia.

Amidst incredible rock formations and spectacular views, your guide will explain how the sea, wind and rain have shaped this almost lunar-looking landscape over millions of years. They’ll also tell you about the area’s flora and fauna, as well as some historical curiosities, so that you’ll come away with a comprehensive and unique insight into this one-of-a-kind natural area within the Andalusian Subbetic System.

By Car

From Málaga, take the A-45 towards Antequera and continue on the A-7075, following the signs for El Torcal. In about an hour, you will reach the free car park at the Torcal Alto Visitor Centre.

By train

Viaja desde Málaga María Zambrano hasta Antequera. Desde allí, completa el recorrido en taxi o coche de alquiler en unos 25–30 minutos.

By bus

Take a bus from Málaga to Antequera. From the station, a taxi will take you to the El Torcal Visitor Centre in about 30 minutes.

Frequently asked questions about: A visit to El Torcal in Antequera

The main access route is via a mountain road, where you’ll find a signposted turn-off for ‘El Torcal’; continue along that road for a further 3 km until you reach the car park next to the Torcal Alto visitor centre.

Estimated time of arrival:

From Antequera: about 25–30 minutes by car.
From Málaga city centre: approximately 1 hour.

The route takes place entirely within the Torcal de Antequera; the guide meets the clients in the Torcal Alto car park, next to the visitor centre, and the tour follows a circular route that starts at that car park and ends back at the same spot.

It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes or hiking boots, and to bring water, sun cream and something warm, as the temperature in El Torcal is usually lower than in Antequera.
During the break on the tour, you’ll be able to enjoy a snack, but this isn’t included, so each participant must bring their own.
This activity is not recommended for people with reduced mobility.
Children under 2 years of age must be carried in a baby carrier. Pushchairs are not permitted.
Children aged between 3 and 17 must always be accompanied by an adult (aged 18 or over).

Approximately 3–4 hours, depending on your skill level and experience with this type of activity.

The route is of low to medium difficulty. It is walked at a leisurely pace, with some uneven or stony sections, but is accessible to anyone of average fitness who is used to walking in the countryside.

The Torcal Alto Visitor Centre has free car parking, although spaces are limited. On busy days (particularly at weekends or on public holidays), vehicle access may be restricted, and a car park will be made available in the lower part of El Torcal (Puerto de la Boca del Asno), from where a shuttle minibus service runs from the lower Torcal to Torcal Alto, which is our meeting point. This service is not included in the price. We recommend arriving well in advance of the activity’s start time.

Yes. The activity may be amended or cancelled in the event of heavy rain, thick fog or strong winds, to ensure the group’s safety.

No, the activity does not include food or drink. There is a short break during the tour to enjoy a snack, but each participant must bring their own.

Change of plans? No problem. You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the activity. After this deadline, or if you do not turn up for the activity, a refund will not be possible.
