Route through the white villages of Malaga

One of the most famous tourist routes in Andalusia is the Route through the white villages of Malaga and the towns of Cádiz. A quiet getaway where you can connect with the more rural and natural side.

At our hotel in Malaga , we propose a magical trip to the spectacular white villages located in the province of Malaga, for which we make a route through the main towns that make up this incredible tour that you will not forget.

First stop: Axarquia

The first days we invite you to visit the white towns of Malaga. We begin our adventure in the Axarquía area of Malaga, following a direction from east to west of the province. In the Axarquía of Málaga there are also white villages, such as Cómpeta. A small town full of charm where there is a great tropical crop, such as mangoes, custard apples and avocados. The ideal destination to connect with nature.Malaga Axarquia

In this area we also find the town of Frigiliana, one of the towns most visited by tourists, and seeing its beauty, we are not surprised. Walking through its streets is already an experience worth living. In addition, it is a very small town where you can relax and enjoy the calm that it transmits. It is the typical little white town with whitewashed houses and narrow streets reminiscent of old neighborhoods.

After passing through Frigiliana and Cómpeta, where we recommend spending one or two days, we will continue our route through the white villages of Málaga arriving on our second day at our next stop, El Chorro.

Second stop: El Chorro

Losing ourselves in the nature of Malaga is always a good option, and if we have as many options as in El Chorro, I won’t even tell you. You can do a Via Ferrata, discover El Caminito del Rey , go camping, kayak on the lake…

There are endless activities that you can do in El Chorro, so you will need more than a couple of days to be able to squeeze all the juice that this beautiful area offers us. If you are looking for accommodation or guided activities you can visit La Garganta to guarantee a unique and unforgettable experience, where it is essential to spend another two days of our trip.

If so much outdoor activity has whetted your appetite, our next stop will make you drool, Casares. Known for its great gastronomy and for being the home of Blas Infante, it is one of the best-known white villages in the Costa del Sol area. If this seemed little to you, it also has another peculiarity to which it owes its great fame. Casares is also known as ”the hanging town”. This is due to the distribution of the buildings and the location itself on the mountainside, which makes it appear from a distance that the town is literally hanging.

Third stop: Ronda and Setenil

We could not do this route through the white towns of Andalusia without visiting Ronda, one of the treasures of our land. With a great wealth in terms of history, gastronomy and landscape, it is an Andalusian jewel worth visiting.

Ronda is divided by the Guadalevín River, where the city’s famous bridge is located, which today is one of the most photographed tourist spots in the province. It is one of the oldest and most famous towns in all of Spain, a place that will undoubtedly not leave you indifferent.

From here to Setenil de las Bodegas, a town nestled under the mountain and divided by its beautiful river that divides the municipality in two. It is one of the most charming white towns in Andalusia in the entire province and although its proximity to Ronda some confuse it as a municipality in Malaga, it is already Caditano territory.

As is Olvera, a hillside of white houses presided over by its important castle that give the city a special shine.

Fourth stop: Cortes de la Frontera and Istán

We continue our journey through Cortes de la Frontera, located in the Sierra de Grazalema Park and is well known for its offer of rural accommodation. Although small, its views are the area of the mountains are the most spectacular you will see on our tour.

We pass to Istán, another of our white towns in Andalusia, it is one of the places declared a Biosphere Reserve and is characteristic for the Verde River that divides the municipality in two.
