The Caminito del Rey is a footbridge hanging over the cliffs of the Sierra Huma that snakes along the wall of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes. It is such a unique piece of engineering that it was built by fishermen who were used to hanging from the rigging of their sailing boats.

After the renovations and improvements carried out in recent years, we can live a unique and totally safe experience by walking through every part of it.

The excursion will start at the Hotel La Garganta, meeting point for all visitors.

How to get to the location?

By car: if leaving from Malaga, take the A-357 towards MA-5403. Once you reach the roundabout, take the first exit and turn right.

By train: the María Zambrano Renfe station has a Malaga – El Chorro line that takes you directly to the south entrance of the Caminito del Rey, next to the hotel La Garganta. Departure: El Chorro.

By bus: to get from Malaga to the starting point of El Caminito del Rey you will have to take two bus lines. The first one (M-231) will take you from the city centre (Malaga Bus Station / Clínico, Teatinos) to Piscina, Álora.

At this same stop (Piscina, Álora) you will find the bus that will take you to El Chorro – El Caminito del Rey. Once you arrive at the meeting point LA GARGANTA we will take care of the rest.

How do I get there?

If you are coming by car from Malaga, the best way is to use the road that passes through Alora. For journeys from Renfe, you will be dropped off at the El Caminito del Rey – El Chorro station, whose stop is next to our hotel.

Where can I eat?

At La Garganta restaurant you can enjoy the traditional food of the area, in a natural setting with views of El Chorro and the Caminito del Rey.

It has also been awarded a Repsol Solete for the quality of its typical dishes, with a modern and contemporary touch that makes them irresistible.

Is it difficult to carry out?

The Caminito del Rey is about 8 km long, has good access, and the path is generally easy for people who do not have any mobility problems.

Do I need special equipment?

It is recommended to wear sports shoes and closed shoes for this route. No additional equipment is required. It is recommended to bring water bottles for the visit and to be well hydrated at all times, especially in the hottest months.

Can children enter the Caminito del Rey?

In order to see the Caminito del Rey it is compulsory for all visitors to be over 8 years old. In addition, it is always necessary to carry a document from the minor to prove their age.

Why should you buy your ticket in the afternoon?

The Caminito del Rey is a completely open-air tour, which is why its opening hours depend on the time of the year. For example, in winter it is only open in the morning from 9:30 AM to 3:00PM.

In the summer, we take advantage of the longer days and open until 17:00, which is the time we arrive at the entrance to the Caminito if you buy your ticket at 15:30.

This way, you do most of the route in the shade, it is less hot and the crowds are smaller, so you can enjoy yourself much more. You can even spend the rest of the afternoon doing the other activities that we offer at La Garganta.

If I buy my visit with Active Gorge, where do I have to go?

At the reception of Hotel La Garganta. All our active tourism activities, whether it is the visit to the Caminito, the bike routes, climbing or the Ferrata, the meeting point will always be our hotel in El Chorro.

In the spring/summer season, what is the best time to do this route?

In the summer months, we recommend our 15:30h visit, taking advantage of the longer days and the fact that the Caminito is open until 17:00, when we arrive at the entrance to the path. This way, we do most of the walk in the shade, with less heat and less crowds, so we enjoy it more!
